BACKGROUND:
General Policy No. 005 involves the periodic review of Board policies and indicates that the review shall be every three years.
General Policy No. 008 governs how SBCERA may assist the Retired Employees of San Bernardino County (RESBC) with communications to retired members while protecting confidential member information.
The policy permits RESBC to request mailings to retirees regarding retirement-related programs, benefits, and RESBC membership. SBCERA retains oversight of the mailing process and approval of materials, and RESBC is responsible for associated costs.
The policy also limits the release of member contact information to retirees who have provided authorization and allows members to opt out of sharing their information. Any outside mailing vendor must have a confidentiality agreement approved by SBCERA.
Pursuant to General Policy No. 005, staff has conducted a review of General Policy No. 008 and has found it consistent with current practice. Staff therefore is recommending renewal of General Policy No. 008 without substantive change.
