Requested Benefit:
1. Optional Death Allowance (Government Code §31787)
Staff Recommendation:
1. Andrew Nunez died on October 27, 2025. Therefore, he is permanently incapacitated from the performance of his usual duties.
2. Andrew Nunez’ death was a result of injuries sustained in the line of duty. Therefore, his death is Service-Connected.
3. The Optional Survivorship Allowance (Service-Connected Disability Survivorship) is payable under Government Code section 31787.
4. Staff shall initiate Optional Death Allowance benefits with an effective date of October 28, 2025, the day after the last day of regular compensation.
BACKGROUND:
Deputy Andrew Nunez selflessly dedicated his career to protecting and serving residents of San Bernardino County, demonstrating unwavering commitment, integrity, and professionalism throughout his service. A separately agendized resolution honoring the memory of Deputy Nunez captures more of his character and his life that will never be forgotten.
