Staff Recommendation:
1. Correct the effective date of Jacob Wiegel’s service-connected disability benefit, where the Board previously granted an effective date of May 4, 2019.
2. Initiate disability benefit payments with an effective date of March 30, 2019, the day after the last day of regular compensation.
BACKGROUND:
On May 2, 2019, the Board found Mr. Wiegel was permanently incapacitated for the performance of duties and that Mr. Wiegel’s disability is Service-Connected, and granted a Service-Connected disability benefit. The effective date to commence the payment of the Service-Connected disability benefit was May 4, 2019. After an audit of Mr. Wiegel’s account, it was determined that the correct effective date for benefits should be March 30, 2019, which is the day after the last day of regular compensation.
