Ratify the Chief Executive Officer’s determination to grant an additional 30-day extension of time for Ruben Navarro to submit additional information regarding his appeal on his retirement benefit payments determination.

BACKGROUND:
On October 22, 2020, Ruben Navarro submitted a request to appeal the determination of his retirement benefit payments, which were required to be adjusted under the Alameda case and resulting SBCERA Board Resolutions. His appeal requested a 30-day extension of time to gather supporting materials, which was granted to November 30, 2020. Mr. Navarro has again requested an additional extension of time, however the Chief Executive’s authority delegated by the Board allows only for one 30 day extension.
Staff believes that the request is reasonable, and that it is appropriate and fair to grant Mr. Navarro’s request for additional time. The Chief Executive Officer has tentatively granted his request for a 30-day extension, subject to the Board’s ratification of that decision. As such, Mr. Navarro’s additional documentation must be submittesd by Decemer 30, 2020.
