BACKGROUND:
SBCERA has a long-standing tradition of hosting its Investment Forum, which is an event for Trustees, staff, and representatives of fund managers, investment counsel and our custodian, to come together for education and networking over a two-day period in September. The 2020 Investment Forum was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Recently, staff was contacted by the Lake Arrowhead Resort to advise that they could not confirm that we would be able to host the 2021 event as an effective in-person networking and learning event due to space limitations and public health restrictions and guidance. Our contract with the Lake Arrowhead Resort provided for a financial penalty if we cancelled the event after April 1, 2021.
Given the likelihood that the Forum will not be able to take place without significant modification, and given the ongoing travel restrictions still in place with conference attendees, staff consulted with the Board Chair and has worked to revamp the Investment Forum for 2021 to be in a virtual format. Staff also worked with the Lake Arrowhead Resort to rollover the existing agreement to September 21-23, 2022, and SBCERA will not suffer any financial penalties as a result.
Attached as Exhibit A is a proposed schedule for a one half-day investment forum, which will feature three hours of education and guest speakers. More information will be provided to the Committee on the proposed format and approach.
